The first change to the dash I did back in 2001 was to get a stock digital gauge replacement set from Mark's Custom Kits Inc. (MCK) www.markscustomkits.com
The digital instrumentation was nice and worked well. Then I wanted to so something more custom, more 'KITTish' to the dash. So I decided that integrating KITT's voice box into the stock dash would do the trick.
I ordered a stand-alone KITT voice box from
MCK. After I received the voice box I proceeded to remove the center AC vent from the stock dash. I then installed the voice box in the vent opening. To give it a finished look, I covered the opening with a piece of tinted Plexiglas.
Next thing I did was remove the stock steering wheel and installed a "gullwing" steering yoke that I purchased from Advanced Designs. (You can see more detailed pictures of the yoke by viewing the "Steering Wheel" page.)
I was happy with this set up and it suited me just fine until I was able to change out the dash completely.
