At the start of my project in 2000, I figured I could give KITT-X a little twist by opting for a Ram Air style hood instead of using the traditional cowl induction hood. Ever since seeing the Pontiac Firehawk I have liked the look of the Ram Air hood. So, in the Fall of 2000 I ordered an aftermarket Ram Air style hood from American Sports Car Design (ASCD).
With the help of my friend Jim and my brother-in-law, Mike, I put the new hood on the car in February 2001. I was pleased with the look the new hood gave my car. It looked even better after the paint job was completed in June 2001.
The Ram Air vents were not functional, but they made the perfect spot to house one of my front cameras and passive IR motion detector.
Recently, I've been thinking about replacing the ram air hood with the traditional T/A cowl induction hood. (The same one KITT has in the show). Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts by voting on the survey!
Well, I got the new hood for KITT in March 2009. I now have the traditional cowl hood on the car. Check out more about that here.
